Meet our musician for hire Cherie
With such an impressive CV, we’re sure you’d love to learn more about the person behind the performer. So we caught up with Cherie to talk about all things – what else – entertainment!
Hi Cherie (or should we say Little Violet?!) Tell us a bit more about your life as a performer! How long have you been as a singer-songwriter?
Well, I’ve been working as a professional musician and songwriter since I graduated from Leeds Conservatoire in 2008 – so more years than I’d care to count! Oh okay…. 14 years.
That’s pretty impressive. How many times do you think you’ve performed to a live audience in that time?
Oh well…. that’s a tough one. If I had to put a number on it though, I’d say at least 5000 times!
Wow! That’s a lot of practice. We know you’ve got a host of songs to suit any occasion – but what’s your favourite song to perform?
No doubt in my mind – I will never grow tired of singing Etta James’ At Last.
You can’t beat the classics! We can really see the influence of the great soul singers in your vocals. Would you say they are your musical inspiration?
Definitely! I idolise Aretha Franklin, and get so much inspiration from Stevie Wonder too.
As a musician for hire at LiveBand entertainment, you travel the country performing for clients. Where is your favourite place to strut your stuff?
I love a stage – so whether it’s an intimate jazz gig or main stage festival, I’m happy! Any event with passionate music fans in the audience is fine by me.
Speaking of our clients, they’ve told us your voice is ‘stunning’ and ‘amazing’ – and we can’t help but agree! But who do you think you sound most like?
Thank you! I’m always thrilled to get great feedback from my gigs. As for my sound, people tend to tell me I’m like a mix of Amy Winehouse and jazz vocalist Anita O’Day. But I’d most like to sound like the stunning Esperanza Spalding.
